Crew: Smash Squad DJs
DJ, Producer, Marketing Whiz, A&R, Video Director...

Born
in Lawrence MA, January 23rd 1982, Statik's love of music led to him to be
an aspiring DJ at a young age, playing with his parents' 8-tracks and cassette
decks. Around 1993, he began recording freestyle and pause mixtapes, all while
studying the music of Gangstarr, Wu Tang Clan, Dr Dre, A Tribe Called Quest,
Rakim, Nas, KRS-One, and Pete Rock & CL Smooth, just to name a few.. By 7th grade, Statik began djing School dances.
A visit to New Jersey for Thanksgiving in 1995 led him to hearing Funkmaster
Flex and Dj Premier Live on NYC's Hot 97. Falling in love with the art of
turntablism instantly, he returned home to get started right away. Statik's
vinyl collection
began growing rapidly with classics that were being released at the time such
as Group Home, AZ, Nas, Gangstarr, and Common Sense. After learning to scratch
basic on
the his father's turntable, he decided to buy a pair and a mixer in 1996.
Around the same time, Statik began doing radio at Phillips Exeter Academy's
WPEA, where he also occasionally DJ' ed some of the Afro-Latino Society Parties.
This expanded his musical taste into Reggae and more R&B. His record collection
continued to grow after frequenting record stores like Biscuithead(Boston),
Fat Beats, and Rock and Soul(NYC).
In 1998, at the age of 16, Statik expanded into rocking nightclubs and parties
across the seacoast,
including Hampton Beach's "Heaven", an under 21 club that later became the
area's hottest teen spot. He quickly learned the basics and mentality of
rocking clubs, no matter what age the crowd.
In 2000, while DJing a party in the Boogie Down Bronx, Statik added the "Selektah"
onto his name after hearing a local reggae artist say it unconsciously. At
the age of 18, Statik made the move from NH to Boston in order to attend classes at The New England
Institute of Arts and communications(where he graduated from August 2002
with a Degree in Audio Production)
Quickly becoming one of Boston's "go-to" djs, Statik rocked just
about every club in the city, holding down residencies at Karma, Avalon, Axis,
Bills Bar, The Officers Club, Aria, Exchange, Europa, and too many others
to name.
On the side, after serving as director of the New England Dj Association
Record Pool and
putting in work on numerous street teams, ShowOff Marketing was formed in
2003 and has been Boston's premier field marketing firm/street team since.
Clients include Reebok, G-Unit Records, Violator Management, Virgin Records,
Capital, Universal, Diddy's Vote or Die campaign, and dozens of others.
As Statik Selektah mix-CDs continued to flood the streets, he also made appearances
DJing on WERS 88.9 and eventually became one of the main mixshow DJs on WBOT
Hot 97.7 and the rest is history.
With his label Showoff Records emerging in 2006 with albums from Termanology
& Granite State, and classic mixtapes with
Nas, G-unit, and AZ to name a few, the world is listening. Statik
has recently been featured on MTV Mixtape Mondays(4x), BET's Rap City, XXL
Magazine, and frequents Eminem's Shade 45 Station.
Currently residing in New York City, catch Statik 7 days a week on airwaves
across the world including Sirius Satellite, 93 WBLX in Mobile AL, Kiss 100
London, Groove FM Australia, and various mixshows weekly on FM stations
across the united states.
Look out for Statik Selektah's debut album on Showoff
Records, SPELL MY NAME RIGHT: THE ALBUM, due to hit the streets in 2006.
